2023 Honda Odyssey Review
The 2023 Honda Odyssey is little changed. Honda did do away with the LX trim making the EX the new base trim. It’s more expensive than the old LX but has more standard features to compensate. Then in the middle of the line-up Honda added a Sport trim with a black exterior and Unique upholstery.
There’s not a lot of minivan competition these days, but the ones left include the Toyota Sienna Chrysler Pacifica and Kia Fiesta. Both the Sienna and Pacifica offer hybrid models that greatly improve fuel economy. You can also get them with all-wheel drive Not available from Honda.
Meanwhile, the Kia Fiesta offers compelling value and a longer warranty than the Odyssey. But overall we think the Odyssey is a great choice for home porters. Check out our test team’s expert ratings below for our full assessment.
2023 Honda Odyssey Space
Depending on the interior and seating configuration the Odyssey has 32.8 to 38.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row.
That expands to 86.6 to 92.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 140.7 to 158 cubic feet behind the front seats. Those are good numbers for a minivan. A force Lift gate and hands-free power lift gate are available.
The Odyssey is a three-row minivan that can accommodate up to eight people. All rows offer comfortable and spacious seating and even the third row has plenty of room for adults. The first two rows of seats are particularly supportive and cushioned.
One benefit of the Odyssey is Honda’s novel Magic Slide second-row seats which can be reclined forward backward or removed entirely to create a variety of seating and cargo-carrying configurations. One caveat though: the seats are heavy so be careful when removing them.
To install child safety seats there are five complete sets of LATCH connectors three for the second row and two for the third row outboard seats. There’s also a tether anchor for the third-row middle seat.
2023 Honda Odyssey Performance
A possible exception is Odyssey where the words minivan and fun can be used in the same sentence. Its V6 engine provides enough power for your merging and passing needs even when your cabin is full. In our test the Odyssey Elite accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds is basically the average time for a V6-powered minivan.
Precise steering and stable braking and handling give the Odyssey confidence both on the highway and on tighter roads. Is the Odyssey sporty? Not really. But it’s well classified and a pleasure to drive. Everything feels cohesive.
A smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission unobtrusively selects the appropriate gear for the situation. If you want to shift gears yourself the standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are great. If we had to be picky it’s the engine stop-start system (which will stop lights to save fuel) are a bit imperfect but can be disabled.
2023 Honda Odyssey Interior
Inside black leather with sporty red contrast stitching covers the steering wheel and first- and second-row outboard seats.
The roof pillars and headliner are also black the interior glows red at night with accent lighting in the driver and passenger footwells and the dashboard in the front doors Handles and door pockets.
The Odyssey Sport is available in Platinum White Pearl Crystal Black Pearl and Radiant Red Metallic exterior colours. Additionally, Sonic Grey Pearl is available for the first time on the Odyssey including the Sport Touring and Elite grades.

2023 Honda Odyssey Comfort
Odyssey is slightly ahead of its peers in another area. The front seats are great for logging miles on extended drives. The second row of seats is equally suitable for children or adults.
Third-row legroom is limited, but two adults can survive a short distance in the back. Our odyssey The Elite’s 19-inch wheels may be stronger than the smaller available wheel options (smaller wheels mean more absorbent tire sidewalls). But overall there aren’t many bumps that the Honda can’t absorb easily.
Honda deserves credit for its noise-canceling efforts and by our measurements the Odyssey is the quietest minivan in the segment. The available cabin intercom also lets you bypass low-level road noise.
2023 Honda Odyssey Technology
Honda’s infotainment system has large virtual buttons and quick responses. You can customize the layout of the virtual buttons on the screen.
Although the Garmin-based navigation graphics and menus seem dated compared to newer systems. And some operations, including voice commands, are a bit difficult to figure out. During testing we preferred to use the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps.
The technology in Odyssey has been tried and tested. A rear cockpit camera monitor (in lieu of sunglasses) and a cockpit intercom are of course useful. But some advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control are sluggish and prone to false alarms. We avoid using them.
2023 Honda Odyssey Test Crash
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the 2023 Honda Odyssey an overall safety rating of five out of five stars.
It earned five stars in both frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test. As of this writing the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not crash-tested the 2023 Odyssey.
2023 Honda Odyssey Fuel Economy And MPG
The EPA estimates the Odyssey Elite’s fuel economy in combined city/highway driving at 22 mpg which is average for a minivan. On our 115-mile evaluation route which consisted mostly of highway driving we observed 21 mpg. This shows that the Odyssey is EPA estimates.

All trim levels have removable center seats in the second row, so you can choose between seating for seven or eight.

Pricing for the 2023 Honda Odyssey entry-level EX model starts at $37,340. Prices range from $40,410 to $44,450 for mid-range models with top-tier elites starting at $49,470.
The 2023 Honda Odyssey will be a complete redesign. We expect it to continue offering seating for up to eight passengers and feature a more stylish exterior and interior than the current model.
The current model’s V-6 engine should carry over, but the Odyssey might also get a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as an alternative. A hybrid powertrain will likely remain an option. As before front-wheel drive will come standard and all-wheel drive will be optional. All Odysseys will again have a nine-speed automatic transmission.
