On the outside the Frontier has a more upright shape and a more rugged look. Since the new Frontier shares many of the mechanical bits with previous models including the 310-horsepower V6 Nissan introduced a few years ago there are fewer changes under the sheet metal.

Get a major inside Decoration but. For example the cab and centre button layout look more suited to a modern mid-size truck and Nissan has added a number of new technologies and advanced driver-assistance features.

2022 Nissan Frontier Space

The Frontier King Cab comes with a 6-foot-1 bed while Crew Cab models come standard with a 5-foot bed. The only model available in two bed lengths is the SV Crew Cab.

The two beds are about 44 inches wide between the wheel wells. Most other compact pickups offer the same bed length (give or take an inch) but some have wider beds that give you 4 feet between wheel wells.

On Crew Cab models the rear seats flip up to provide additional storage space in the cab. Even in use there is storage space under the rear seats. You can add bed features for added versatility including bed lights in-bed power sockets and Nissan’s Utili-track adjustable tie down system.

Frontier is available in King Cab for 4 and Crew Cab for 5. The front seats are very comfortable. They’re Nissan’s zero-gravity seats, and they offer good support plenty of head and legroom and a high seating position for excellent forward visibility.

Like most trucks in this class the Frontier’s rear seats are undersized. In the King Cab model adults have a hard time getting into the back. Crew Cab models have more space, but most adults still want more space.

2022 Nissan Frontier Comfort

The highlight here is the Frontier’s comfortable ride quality. At high speeds the slumps and bumps are just a shrug while the border remains equally calm around town.

Other aspects of Frontier aren’t quite as perfect. The front seat padding is a bit too hard and flat The lack of seat adjustment means you may find it difficult to get used to the optimal seating position.

The climate control system is relatively simple to operate and is capable of maintaining a comfortable temperature on hot days. But to our disappointment our Frontier didn’t have vents for the rear passengers. We also noticed excessive wind noise on the highway.

The gauge cluster now uses a larger 7.0-inch colour display to offset its analogue gauges. A heated steering wheel and heated front seats are also available. Speaking of seats Frontier went on to comfort our backs with Nissan’s soft zero-gravity seats.

Internal cubby storage includes bins on top of the dash and under the rear seats to store items. Available in two wheelbase lengths the truck offers a short and long cargo bed the former measuring just under 5 feet in length and the latter just over 6 feet in length.

2022 Nissan Frontier Performance

The Frontier isn’t the fastest midsized truck. Our Frontier Pro-4X test truck sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds an average time for the class. But the engine really shines in everyday driving.

There’s ample mid-range grunt and the transmission even shifts smoothly under full throttle acceleration. The Frontier’s brakes are equally effortless. They are easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and powerful enough to stop the truck in time when you need it.

Confident handling is another Frontier highlight. Even with the Pro-4X’s off-road tires the truck can feel the corners. But very heavy steering is a headache. Driving a Nissan through a car park or passing by a Drive at low speed.

2022 Nissan Frontier Engine

While most compact trucks give you a range of powertrain options (including a diesel option for some trucks) the Frontier has only one: a 310-horsepower V6 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Most reviewers agree that the engine has plenty of power in most driving situations although some wish it propelled the truck with more oomph. The transmission feels a little indecisive at times, but shifts are smooth.

2022 Nissan Frontier Gas Mileage

Most small trucks are more fuel efficient than this Nissan but to be fair that’s because they have a four-cylinder engine rather than a V6.

True 4WD Frontier models get 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway while 4WD models get an EPA-estimated 17/22 mpg city/highway. These ratings are more or less the same as those achieved by V6-powered competitors.
