2022 Lincoln Navigator Review
The 2022 Lincoln Navigator isn’t an all-new model, but it does get major tweaks and additions that make it more attractive than last year’s model. Among these improvements is the first implementation of Lincoln’s Active Glide a limited hands-free driving system.
There’s also a road-sensing camera that relays information to the suspension to produce a smoother ride.
Many of the updates for 2022 are for the Navigator’s rear passengers. The second-row seats are now ventilated and can now be equipped with a massage function. This fully digital control module is new and allows rear passengers to adjust the seats and climate system.
Rear entertainment The system has also been upgraded with Amazon Fire TV compatibility, so people in the back can stream (or download ahead of time) their favourite shows and movies. Front passengers will enjoy a larger central touchscreen.
The current Navigator is so impressive that we don’t shy away from comparing it to more expensive SUVs from Mercedes-Benz or BMW. Then there’s Navigator’s long-time competitor Escalade. It has been redesigned for the 2021 model year with improved comfort and new technology features.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Space
With this large SUV you won’t be short of cargo space. Depending on how the sliding and reclining rear seats are configured standard-wheelbase models have 19.3 to 20.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row and 57.5 to 63.6 cubic feet behind the second row. Fold down Both rows open up a whopping 103.3 cubic feet of space.
The extended-wheelbase Navigator L has 34.3 to 36 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 73.3 to 79.6 cubic feet behind the second row. Cargo room maxes out at 120.2 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.
The Navigator’s standard hands-free power tailgate and power-folding seat make the stowage a convenient proposition. That said the Navigator’s second-row center console remains in place which means you can’t fully flatten large items even with the rear folded down.
The Lincoln Navigator is a three-row SUV that seats seven with standard second-row captain’s seats or eight if you opt for the second-row bench. Regardless of configuration all three rows offer excellent space and comfort.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Gas Mileage
The Navigator offers good gas mileage in the luxury large SUV class though many rivals have a fuel-guzzling V8 which isn’t Lincoln’s choice.
With rear-wheel drive the Navigator has an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. In four-wheel drive models Those numbers drop slightly to 16 mpg and 22 mpg in the city and highway.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Interior
The interior of the Navigator is very spacious and luxurious. Materials like open-pore wood trim and massaging front seats are only available for the upper trim but even the entry-level Navigator has plenty to choose from. The third row of the Navigator is one of the best examples of seating.
The Navigator has 1.1 inches more legroom in the third row than the GLS-Class and the other competitors are further behind. The Navigator offers optional 30-way adjustable massaging front seats a key feature in Lincoln’s flagship SUV.
The seat is Almost sculptural and customizable you can even adjust the separate left and right thigh supports to different heights. The Navigator’s sheer size can be a disadvantage when crossing traffic or trying to park, but it’s a huge boon when it comes time to pack a Holiday.
Cargo space is limited on short-wheelbase models with all three rows in use; cargo space is ample when the third row is folded. Even with the third row the long-wheelbase L model has ample cargo room.
Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
The 2022 Navigator gets a major infotainment upgrade over the previous version. It now comes with the excellent SYNC 4 infotainment system which builds on the already impressive SYNC 3 system adding cloud-based connectivity for over-the-air software updates. Larger touchscreen (13.2″ 10 for the 2021 model) and wireless smartphone connectivity are also new for 2022.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Comfort
Wind and road noise is minimal with only a small amount of ambient noise creeping in. The suspension is great for softening sharp bumps or road changes. But on a continuously undulating surface there can be a lot of body movement which is almost uncomfortable.
The front seats have been tweaked a lot more than they really need. It takes a while to find a setting you like. But once you do, you will feel very comfortable. Seat heaters and coolers also work well.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Engine
All Navigators are powered by a powerful twin-turbocharged 3.5 litter V6 engine. It produces 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque for confident off-the-line acceleration and good highway passing.
The 10-speed automatic transmission works perfectly with the V6 to provide smooth and Drama-free shifts.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Ride and Handling
The Navigator is a huge vehicle. Handling is fine, but the speed of this SUV can feel wobbly. Critics also report that the steering feels a little numb. Ride quality is mostly good, although some competitors offer a smoother ride on potholed roads.

Given the size and weight of the Navigator it excels at delivering strong performance and stress-free driving. The engine is quick and responsive the steering is effortless and body roll is under control when you corner.
V6 is very powerful, so you can get started quickly hurry. Our test Navigator covered 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds. That’s moving!
Large vehicles tend to dive or twist when you hit the brakes suddenly and navigators are no exception. That said braking performance is entirely adequate for this class.
The Navigator feels peaceful around town and even on narrow roads. We wouldn’t call it that Athletic. But in terms of the comfort it offers it’s not the unwieldy behemoth you’d expect.

When properly equipped the Navigator can tow up to 8700 lbs. That’s enough to tow a small to medium trailer for your next glamping trip.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Technology
Using the latest technology the Navigator features an excellent infotainment interface superb sound system quality comprehensive driver aids and ample device charging options. Wireless connectivity supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and onboard Wi-Fi hotspot Icing on the cake.
We were impressed with the easy-to-configure immersive experience the 28-speaker Revel stereo in our test vehicle provided. A number of driver aids are included as standard equipment including blind-spot detection lane-keep assist and forward collision detection with automatic emergency brake.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Fuel Economy
Based on an EPA-estimated 18 mpg (16 city/21 highway) the Navigator should be one of the more efficient vehicles in its class. But we averaged 18.1 mpg on the 1,700-mile highway on premium fuel (our high was 20.0 mpg).
We also saw low numbers when we did in most cities driving, so we think the EPA’s numbers may be mildly optimistic about real-world driving.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Lincoln also made its Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assistance technologies standard on the Navigator which includes items such as blind-spot monitoring automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
