It delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque enough to get you around town or the highway with little drama. Available 3.0 litter turbo diesel The inline-six makes 277 horsepower and a healthy 460 pound-feet of torque.
Two V8s are available: a 5.3 litter version with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque; and a 6.2 litter version with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines provide plenty of power for towing and towing, and you won’t feel the need for more grunt on the road.
The base turbocharged four-cylinder is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission while the three available are mated to a 10-speed automatic.
Base engine: Turbocharged 2.7 litter four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque (standard on Pro SLE and Elevation)
- 5.3 litter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque (standard on SLT and Denali; available on Pro SLE and Elevation)
- Turbo diesel 3.0 litter inline-six with 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque (standard on AT4 and Denali Ultimate; available in SLE Elevation SLT and Denali)

2022 GMC Sierra Horsepower Top Speed
For 2022 it’s faster and more powerful in its base form. The old 4.3 litter V-6 that served as the base engine was eliminated in favour of a 2.7 litter turbo-4 that made 310 hp but increased torque to 430 lb-ft. The 6-speed automatic transmission was dropped leaving only an 8- or 10-speed.
On the road the turbo-4 doesn’t have the deep tonality of a V-6 or V-8 but its turbo kicks in quickly giving the pickup plenty of power especially in the 0-30 mph sprint and even on the highway to a pass.
The extra torque should improve the towing performance of the previous version, but we haven’t tested it yet. It’s a decent engine, but it’s not much more efficient than a base V-8 because the turbos have to kick in often. It has a towing capacity of 9100 pounds.
GM’s reliable 5.3 litter V-8 makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It has good grunt in any situation with the deep rich sound you’d expect from a pickup. It can tow up to 11,200 pounds.
2022 GMC Sierra Ride quality

The new AT4X features advanced spool valve dampers that provide better control and help cushion off-road shocks. They teamed up with thick sidewall off-road tires to make the AT4X the smoothest Sierra ride around.
The purpose-built AT4X off-road vehicle has additional features that make it capable off-road. It features front and rear locking differentials transfer case skid plates and 32-inch Goodyear Duratrac all-terrain tires. GMC also revised the suspension at 9.8 inches in the front and 10.6 inches in the rear Suspension travel and an increase in ride height to 11.1 inches result in improved approach breakout and departure angles. A 2-speed transmission provides low-range gears for the AT4X as well as Denali and AT4 crawl.
