2022 Subaru WRX Review
Subaru’s redesigned 2022 WRX follows the successful original formula of the sporty compact sedan with a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends power to all four wheels. From 2014 to 2021 the outgoing generation has lasted longer than usual and is in desperate need of a refresh. This new WRX is great news for its existing and potential new fan base.
It’s based on the WRX’s all-new chassis and powered by a 2.4 litter (up from 2.0 litter) turbocharged four-cylinder. The new WRX makes 274 horsepower and can be had with a six-speed manual or Subaru’s upgraded CVT automatic Subaru says Performance is automatic. Among other high-performance (but not high-performance) sedans the Subaru WRX is a bit rough around the edges. 2022 Subaru WRX Engine
Under the hood of the WRX is a turbocharged 2.4 litter flat-four. Its 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque come through a standard six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Traditionally every WRX has all-wheel drive. The WRX looks a lot like other contemporary Subaru models except it gets carbon fibre like trim and red contrast stitching. 2022 Subaru WRX Comfort
The ride quality and seat comfort of the WRX are among the best in its class. Notably we didn’t experience significant fatigue or pain after a few hours of driving in the WRX. The seat holds you in place in the corners and provides proper support at all times.
The climate controls housed within the large central touchscreen are a bit tricky to learn and can be distracting at first but most owners get the hang of using them relatively quickly. On the downside the WRX is quite noisy with a little rumble from the engine at high speeds and There is some noticeable wind noise on the doors and mirrors.
2022 Subaru WRX Infotainment and Connectivity
Every WRX comes with a vertically oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While it mostly relies on touch input it does have some physical controls for the climate system and stereo. An 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is also available.
Otherwise, the standard list of WRX Multimedia features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2022 Subaru WRX Technology
A highlight of the interior experience is the WRX Limited’s 11.6-inch centre screen. It has crisp graphics and quick response to input. Some users might not like the portrait-style layout but getting used to its functionality is relatively easy.
Viewing navigation destinations and directions is easy Also benefit from the crisp screen and high-contrast display. The 11-speaker Harman Kardon stereo is also excellent with high-quality audio that’s properly powered for high-volume listening.
Smartphone connectivity happens quickly thanks to many on-screen prompts and the system understands the most natural language and voice control is easy to use.
Our test vehicle lacked some key optional driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control and forward collision mitigation but The blind-spot monitoring system and lane-keep assist system on the vehicle worked well with no false positives or overly sensitive alerts.
2022 Subaru WRX Storage
As a higher-performance compact sedan the WRX’s competition includes a number of vehicles that can be used as a sedan and hatchback or exclusively as a hatchback. The WRX offers just 12.5 cubic feet of boot space less than what the Honda Civic Si and Hyundai Elantra offer. Thankfully the rear seats do fold down to accommodate longer items.

The WRX is equipped with a variety of popular driver assistance technologies, but such equipment is only available on models with automatic transmissions.

2022 Subaru WRX Value
Build quality is very good. There are many soft-touch surfaces and from the moment you step into the WRX you feel elegant. Unfortunately the WRX’s fuel economy is far worse than the competition and worse than the already poor previous-generation model. It is also one of the more expensive The highest performance compact sedan on the market.
Warranty on the WRX is average for that class: three years/36,000 miles with five years of basic warranty/60,000 miles of powertrain and five years/unlimited miles of corrosion. Roadside assistance continues for the basic warranty period.
Storage for small items is enough for a smartphone and a small water bottle. Fitting a child seat to the rear should be relatively easy thanks to the open doors, although you’ll have less rear legroom to accommodate a larger seat.
