Our employees have over 75 years of combined experience in the automotive industry. To ensure our objectivity we never accept expensive gifts from car manufacturers and outside companies to manage age advertising on our website.
In addition to several styling updates the 2022 Stinger also hopes to replace the standard 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0 litter four-cylinder with a more powerful 2.5 litter turbocharged four-cylinder. The new engine produces a powerful 300 horsepower.
Not to be overlooked is the slight power boost from the optional twin-turbocharged 3.3 litter V-6 Thanks to a new variable exhaust system power has increased from 365 hp to 368 hp. Styling improvements include updated exterior lighting elements new wheel designs and larger exhaust outlets.
Inside the 2022 Stinger new metal trim features upgraded materials adjustable ambient lighting and larger Optional 10.3-inch infotainment display.
2022 Kia Stinger Spaces
As a stylish hatchback this Kia is one of the more practical luxury small cars. Behind the rear seats is 23.3 cubic feet of cargo space which is more than some crossovers or many sub compact SUVs have. Folding the second row down creates about 41 cubic feet of storage space.
The hatch opening is large and wide making it easy to move bulky items in and out. Additionally, the top-of-the-line Stinger GT2 model features a hands-free power tailgate for added convenience.
2022 Kia Stinger Engine
The 2022 Stinger comes with two different turbocharged engines a new 300-horsepower 2.5 litter turbo-four and a 368-hp twin-turbo 3.3andro and V-6. We haven’t tested the new engine but the V-6 delivers exciting performance that has our enthusiasts’ blood boiling.
Both engines are associated litter with an In our experience the eight-speed automatic transmission provides quick shifts and is unobtrusive when shifting on its own. However, we wish the paddle shifters offered a sharper response to driver input.
For the straight-line speed driver the V-6 drives The Stinger GT didn’t disappoint. In our track test the Stinger GT mastered straight-line speed and sprinted to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. It’s fine in normal driving but when pushed to the limit it can’t quite match the composure of its more established rivals.
Brymbokewise, we found some protest from the rear suspension—uncomfortably sidestepping during hard turns on rough roads—and some front and rear pitching along with our full acceleration and braking. All GTs feature power like wise, rembo brakes that can bring anyone to a quick stop Measured in this class of performance sedans and fits Brymbo and without rolling on less grippy all-season tires the Stinger is less impressive—in this class or any other.
2022 Kia Stinger Performance
The 2022 Kia Stinger comes standard with a 2.5 litter turbocharged four-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the 255-horsepower 2.0 litter engine that comes standard on the 2021 Stinger this larger mill puts the Stinger in a class.
Acceleration from a stop is snappy when you’re at higher speeds and the standard paddle shifters add a level of engagement to the quick eight-speed automatic.
The drivetrain has a suitably sporty exhaust note, but some test drivers noted that it might not sound refined. Kia Claims the turbo-four base model can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
2022 Kia Stinger vs. 2022 Kia K5
The Kia K5 is a midsized sedan and while it’s good in itself it’s not as dynamic as the Stinger. The K5 comes standard with a demure 180-horsepower turbo, but an optional 290-horsepower turbo gives it a whole new stance.
Better handling and cargo space Stinger, but, but it’s more than $10,000 more expensive than the K5 in its base form. In fact, but you can get a fully loaded K5 for almost less than buying a standard Stinger.
2022 Kia Stinger Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The rear-drive four-cylinder 2022 Stinger has the highest estimated fuel economy with EPA ratings of 22 mpg city and 32 highways. Naturally the more powerful V-6 engine is less efficient especially with all-wheel drive dropping its estimates to 17 mpg city and 24 mpg.
Although we don’t Test the new 2.5 litter turbocharged four-cylinder engine on our 75-mph highway route as part of our extensive testing regimen in which the all-wheel-drive V-6 model we reviewed returned 26 miles /gallon. For more information on Stinger fuel economy visit the EPA website.
2022 Kia Stinger Interior
The Stinger’s interior is well-designed and attractive, but it can’t quite match the Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series in terms of material quality or construction. Again the Kia costs far less than those two German sedans. However, the Stinger does offer a more comfortable rear There’s more seating than many cars in this class — and the edge feels bigger than its numbers suggest.
While the Stinger’s interior is free of glaring mistakes and omissions the overall effect isn’t as hard-working as we’ve enjoyed from a well-known luxury brand. The declared boot capacity predicts it has by far the most cargo space in this group,
but it only beat its rivals by a small margin in our real-world cargo tests. With its wide hatchback opening and long wheelbase we expect the Stinger to do better in these measurements. Its centre The console is on the larger side of the car which helps make up for the fact that the front door pockets are the smallest of the bunch.
2022 Kia Stinger Infotainment and Connectivity
Kia’s infotainment system — called UVO — works well in the Stinger consisting of an 8.0- or 10.3-inch touchscreen with useful physical buttons.
