We finally got our hands on the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Si, and we have to say, it was worth the wait. This 10th generation Civic is a complete redesign from the ground up, and it shows. The new Si is sportier, more aggressive, and just plain better looking than the previous model. But does it have what it takes to compete with the likes of the 2022 Honda Civic and 2023 Honda HRV ? Let’s find out.

The 2022 Honda Civic Si has grown up, but it’s still exciting to drive. While the competition is getting faster and the Si isn’t it’s still a very good all-around performer and has one of the better manual transmissions in existence today.

Si is also relatively cheap compared to other products Top-notch but manages not to skimp on interior quality or tech luxuries. Most importantly it has excellent fuel economy.

The Civic Si bridges the gap between the standard commuter sedan and performance cars like the Civic Type R. It’s more powerful than the standard Civic but not quite as aggressive or unrelenting as the Type R. Basically the Civic Si can do track – if on duty on weekends You want it, but it could also be a comfortable everyday driver.

Like the standard Civic the Si has been redesigned for 2022 with a fresh look on the outside and inside, but some old parts hang underneath.

Open the hood of the Civic Si, and you’ll find a 1.5 litter turbocharged four-cylinder. It shares that engine with other turbocharged 2022 Civics, but the Si gets more power — 200 horsepower to be exact 20 more than the others. Unfortunately this power rating is a bit Lower than the previous Civic Si. The engine is inherited from the previous generation,

But Honda has reduced peak horsepower slightly in pursuit of better drivability. Peak torque is now 300 rpm lower in the rev range while peak horsepower drops less dramatically above 6000 rpm. This makes the Si both better at the limit and easier to drive around town at low revs.

Under the hood of the Civic Si is a turbocharged 1.5 litter four-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent to the front wheels via a standard limited-slip differential and six-speed manual transmission. The automatic option is not currently available.

Our hands-on experience showed the engine was a little rough when pushed, but there was very little turbo lag, and we liked the short stroke and light action of the shifter. The manual transmission now also has revved matching for drivers who haven’t perfected the heel and toe technique, and it’s easy On or off.

On our test track the Civic Si’s zero-to-60-mph time of 6.8 seconds was 0.5 seconds quicker than the Civic hatchback we tested with the six-speed manual. Compared to the regular Civic the Si has larger brake discs and comes with a set of summer tires.

The latter combined to The car’s firmer suspension gives the Si an edge in the handling department and while adaptive dampers are no longer included the standard suspension is smooth and smooth and never feels harsh.

The Civic Si sedan does quite well. In corners the Si is responsive but stable providing lively entertainment while instilling confidence behind the wheel. Steering is light at lower speeds and adds weight with speed, although we found ourselves more precise to want more feedback.

The Si’s engine is less impressive. The output of 200 hp is no longer special. On our test track our Civic Si sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. That doesn’t make it any slower than the Volkswagen GTI (5.9 seconds for the automatic), but it’s far from quick. Its engine and The exhaust note isn’t particularly memorable either.

A unique set of sports seats with the addition of unique Si logos and red contrast stitching on the headrests is one of the main ways Honda differentiates the Si trim from the standard Civic. Red stitching extends to doors steering wheel and other surfaces indicates the sportiness of the car.

The ornate grid that spans the length of the dash and hides the HVAC vents also gets a distinctive red accent. In the Si the driver faces an instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a digital tachometer on the left. Unfortunately unlike its predecessor the Si Heated seats are no longer available.

The same size as the less sporty Civic sedan it offers the same comfortable back seat and luggage compartment for six carry-on luggage.

The Si’s suspension while stiffer than the standard Civic’s does a good job of smoothing out bumps in the road. It’s not a comfortable ride, but we think that’s an acceptable trade-off given the car’s sporty handling.

The front sports seats are well-cushioned and offer good supports laterally but doesn’t feel restrained. The sports fabric is also breathable to help keep you cool on warmer days, but the seat lacks adjustable lumbar support which can be a problem for those with sensitive lumbar areas.

The climate-control layout is a marked improvement over the previous-generation setup and the cabin is well-vented. However, you don’t get heated seats on the Si or dual-zone automatic climate control.

Road noise is noticeable at any speed and can be quite intrusive at rough surface. Thankfully wind noise is more subdued and the rest of the interior feels solidly constructed and vibration-free.

The 2022 Civic Si is rated at 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Once we get a chance to run one on our 75-mph highway route as part of our extensive testing regimen we can assess its actual mpg.

The Civic Si’s large 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits high on the dash to help you focus on the road. It has an intuitive on-screen menu that responds quickly to your input. Most users will likely choose to use standard Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphones projection.

We found that the wireless connection was sometimes unstable, so you might just want to stick with the USB cable. It is more stable than wireless and offers faster connection speeds.

The Si may be available with a manual transmission but still offers the rare adaptive cruise. It does an admirable job of easing the burden of driving in slow-moving traffic although if that’s not immediately obvious you’ll have to change yourself. Honda’s new camera-based advanced driving AIDS works well in most cases. Faded lane markings can sometimes trip up the lane-keep assist, but it’s less common.

The Civic Si’s boot can hold up to 14.4 cubic feet of cargo which is roomy compared to other sedans but not as good as the space of sport hatchbacks like the Volkswagen GTI. That space is available thanks to minimal interference from the Civic’s wheel wells and boot hinges.

One thing we really liked about the previous Civic: It had a lot of clever interior storage. Honda implemented more traditional storage points for this new Civic which in our opinion is a small step. The centre armrest still holds plenty of cupholders, and it has rubber The charging pad on the front helps keep the phone from sliding around while charging.

The EPA estimates the Civic Si (with the turbocharged engine) will achieve 31 mpg in combined city/highway (27 city/37 highway) driving. The Si beats its most direct performance rival by at least 3 mpg. We managed to hit 34.6 mpg on the 115-mile mixed-driving evaluation route which is indicates that if you are not a leading driver the EPA estimates may be very accurate.

Instead, you can wring out the Civic’s engine like a dirty rag until limit then slide into the next gear and try to stifle a huge grin. Acceleration isn’t dazzling, but it’s enough to make the Si feel special in almost any driving situation.

The Honda Civic Si is a great deal for this sporty compact group. It has good performance excellent fuel economy a plethora of standard features and a refined interior.
