2022 Kia Sorento

The all-new 2022 Kia Sorento has been completely redesigned and re-engineered to deliver an even more versatile, stylish and premium SUV experience. The new Sorento features a sleek and modern exterior design, a spacious and refined interior with class-leading third-row legroom, and an array of advanced safety and technology features. With seven trim levels to choose from – including the new X-Line – there’s a Sorento to suit

The 2022 Kia Sorento is a small SUV and one of the few in its class to offer three rows of seats. In that sense it’s an interesting option if you want something more versatile than Asia’s Sportage small SUV but not as big or expensive as the three-row midsized Telluride.

2022 Kia Sorento has completely redesigned the Sorento for 2021 and the model’s new styling is no doubt inspired by its Telluride sibling. The Sorento offers four powertrain options including hybrid and new for 2022 a plug-in hybrid. Additionally, many trims this year get extra equipment such as a 10.25-inch All but the base model now have a touchscreen.

2022 Kia Sorento review

2022 Kia Sorento Review

With more powertrain options and a smaller footprint the 2022 Kia Sorento is a compelling alternative to the larger Kia Telluride. Both of Kia’s models are beautiful with three rows, but adults don’t want to spend too much time in the Sorento’s rear seats and when those seats are upright they limit its cargo capacity.

Keep the third row stowed however, and Whatever cosy its beautifully appointed cabin becomes a cosy place for a small family. Unlike the Telluride the Sorento is available as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid helping to maximize fuel efficiency.

Whatever cosy provides the impetus The Kia has a smooth ride and satisfying handling characteristics. The entire package is cohesive and includes popular standard and optional features that make the 2022 Sorento one of the better options in its class

2022 Kia Sorento Engine

The Sorento is available with a choice of engines and is available with front- or all-wheel drive. A 191-horsepower 2.5 litter inline-four comes standard but a 281-horsepower turbocharged 2.5 litter four-cylinder is also available.

Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a hybrid model A six-speed automatic transmission is used. We drove the top-of-the-line SX trim with the turbo-4 and appreciated the noticeable thrust, but we wished the powertrain felt more responsive off the line. The same model offers balanced handling with a nicely isolated ride and firm brake pedal feedback.

Environmentally friendly The Sorento Hybrid uses a combination of a turbocharged 1.6 litter four-cylinder gas engine and a 44.0 kW electric motor that together produce 227 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid has the same engine and transmission but makes 261 hp combined and more power at 66.9 kW Electric motor all-wheel drive only. When equipped with a tow pack the Sorento can tow up to 3500 lbs.

2022 Kia Sorento Performance

2022 Kia Sorento Performance

The Sorento with the optional turbo engine is pretty quick for a small SUV. What impressed us was not just the sprint to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds but the way the power continued to build at higher speeds. In contrast,

This Sorento is A similarly sized Volkswagen Tiguan is even faster than a V6-powered Honda Passport. Motorway merging and passing is not a problem in Sorento. Equally impressive is the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which enables near-seamless shifting at slow speeds flow or full throttle combined.

Thanks to the well-balanced and intuitive brake pedal you can slow down the Sorento with confidence. The Sorento swerved just a little from a stop from 60 mph and braked at 121 feet which was better than average for its class. Handling is equally encouraging, but we hope Steering is more accurate.

2022 Kia Sorento Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

2022 Kia Sorento hybrid

The Sorento with the base 2.5 litter four-cylinder engine is estimated to earn 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The more powerful turbocharged 2.5 litter four-cylinder is rated at up to 22 MPG city and 29 highways.

The hybrid Sorento is the most fuel efficient with an estimated 39 MPG city and 35 MPG highway. The plug-in hybrid is rated at 79 MPGe combined but its city and highway estimates are 35 and 33 MPG respectively.

Kia also claims that the PHEW can travel 32 miles on electricity alone on a single charge. Once we get a chance to run these powertrains on the highway at 75 mph The fuel economy route is part of our extensive testing regimen where we can assess the SUV’s actual MPGMPG. For more information on Sorento fuel economy visit the EPA website.

2022 Kia Sorento Comfort

All three rows of seats provide better-than-expected comfort for a small SUV. The front seats in our top-of-the-line test vehicle offered heated ventilation and a good range of adjustment. Second-row captain’s chairs (benches are standard seats on lower trim levels) sturdy but More comfortable and supportive than bench seats in other SUVs.

The third-row seats are small and low off the floor but still provide adequate support for adults. Dual-zone climate control is efficient and easy to use even though touch-sensitive buttons are not as responsive as traditional buttons button.

Ride comfort isn’t all that impressive, and it’s steady into the cabin at lower speeds. The big 20-inch wheels on the Sorento we tested could be the culprit there low-profile tires causing elevated road noise on the highway. Ride on the highway in Sorento Well controlled giving confidence and a sense of stability.

2022 Kia Sorento Interior

2022 Kia Sorento interior

The Sorento interior has an attractive layout handsome materials and solid build quality. The instrument panel can be equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The rest of the design incorporates diamond-shaped vents integrated ambient lighting and Intricate stitched surfaces on door panels and seat inserts.

Various cubby storage spots and cup holders also fill the console. In addition to the standard third row its second-row bench can be swapped out for a pair of captain’s chairs. Compared to the larger Telluride Sorento’s The rear seats are uncomfortable for adults, and we only managed to fit two carry-on luggage in the cargo area—two less than the Telluride.

2022 Kia Sorento infotainment and connectivity

With infotainment and connectivity features at the forefront of new car technology Sorento supports all the most desirable content. It comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen or an optional 10.3-inch touchscreen.

In addition to the wireless charging pad there’s an optional 12-speaker Bose sound systems are for those who prefer a premium audio experience. A rear-seat entertainment system with a touchscreen mounted behind each front seat is also optional.

2022 Kia Sorento Technology

Our top-of-the-line test car featured a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation an upgraded Bose audio system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The graphics are crisp and creative, but we found some on-screen buttons to be a little on the small side.

Bose sound system a little Less impressive we never really found the sweet spot in a variety of music. The mere plain voice command system is the least impressive piece of technology in Sorento lacking natural language recognition and flexibility.

Equipped with 8 USB ports and a wireless charger passengers’ devices will never run out of power. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility are standard, but wireless connectivity is not available.

Sorento’s advanced driver assistance systems are not only in range but also in application. We didn’t experience any false positives and aside from the overly cautious rear cross-traffic alert we had no complaints.

2022 Kia Sorento Storage

With third-row seats cargo capacity is only 12.6 cubic feet which is the equivalent of about five grocery bags in a row. Its closest competitor the Volkswagen Tiguan offers just 12 cubes while the larger Subaru Ascent offers a whopping 17.8 Sorento offers drop with third row Between 38.5 and 45 cubic feet depending on how far you slide the second-row seats forward.

That’s more than the roomy Toyota RAV4 (up to 37.6 cubic feet) and the larger Honda Passport (41.2 cubic feet). With all seats down the Sorento holds 75.5 cubic feet on par with a Honda CR-V.

Internal storage is another Sorento’s strong point. While it lacks the cleverness of the Honda CR-V and Passport there are plenty of thoughtful storage options in all three rows.

The towing capacity of the new-generation Sorento is a fairly standard 3500 lbs. standing at 5000 lbs. The Sorentos without the turbo engine can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2022 Kia Sorento Prices

We like the EX trim level. It’s more expensive than the bottom two models, but it comes standard with a more powerful 281-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. It also has better amenities than the S trim below it including leatherette upholstery heated front seats blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert remote Start and sleeker styling like 18-inch wheels and black exterior trim.

Pairing all-wheel drive with the EX trim costs an extra $3,700 which is $1,900 more than the previous model year. However, the upgrade now includes what’s in the X-Line Appearance Pack which includes a 1.0-inch taller Wheels with a 20-inch ride height bridge roof rack and other unique exterior details.

2022 Kia Sorento Value

As we’ve come to expect from a Kia the Sorento is well-equipped and well-built. Even with some hard plastic scattered around the cabin the Sorento has always been thoughtful detailing and a premium touch. Sorento still manages to look And it feels good value for money even though the price tag puts it closer to a bigger and more powerful SUV.
