The 2023 Kia Soul is a sub-compact crossover SUV that has been completely redesigned. It now has a boxier shape and rides on a new platform. The interior has also been updated with new materials and technology.
The 2023 Kia Soul is powered by a 147-horsepower four-cylinder engine and is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. Prices start at $20,490.
2023 Kia Soul Review
The third-generation Kia Soul takes the boxy hatch formula and updates it with sharper styling, a simple interior with unique design elements and a long list of useful standard features. 2023 Kia Soul builds on this advancement in some ways but pulls back in others.
A refreshed soul loses its Unique elongated headlights in favour of larger, more traditional headlights. The new model also does away with the sporty GT-Line Turbo trim and the Soul’s turbo four-cylinder option.
Choosing to drive the 2023 Kia Soul speaks for itself, as its unconventional stylized toaster design and memorable ad campaign (which features a hamster dancing to a dance) give it a certain whimsy. While the Soul looks unlike anything else on the road, its boxy is true,
The body hides a particularly functional cabin that despite its small footprint has plenty of room for people and cargo. It’s also priced thousands of dollars less than competitors like the Chevrolet Trailblazer Jeep Renegade and Kia Seltos which is also excellent value.
It’s not the most exciting car in The drive and its 147-horsepower four-cylinder is only matched to a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, but the Soul offers a compliant ride and multiple virtues that make life enjoyable.
2023 Kia Soul Engine and Performance
The only engine is a 147-horsepower 2.0 litter four-cylinder with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. On our test track our test vehicle needed 8.0 seconds to hit 60 mph which is behind many competitors.
But the soul feels alive around town When you want to overtake someone, the CVT is willing to choose a lower gear ratio. Handling isn’t particularly sharp, but the Soul’s mission isn’t to carve corners like a sports car, after all.
Most buyers will find the Soul to be a comfortable ride that offers enough personality to avoid bland.
Kia Soul Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Soul’s EPA ratings are as high as 35 mpg on the highway and as low as 28 mpg in the city — not bad for a seemingly non-aerodynamic box on wheels. The Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Venue (its main rival) offer similar highway numbers.
But both outpace the Kia in the city, hit 31 and 30 mpg respectively. On our 75-mph fuel economy test, the Soul hit 30 mpg. For more information on Soul fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
2023 Kia Soul Interior
Soul has a flattering interior that is bright and spacious. The gauges and buttons are large and within reach. Kia gave the dash seats and trim a rounded look that continues the happy personality established by the exterior design.
The soul does not have a standard mass Tech, but everything works well and offers some great facilities at a reasonable price.
Kia Soul Infotainment and Connectivity
A touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across the board on all trims, but the base model gets a large 10.3-inch display; the LX has an 8.0-inch unit. Choose a model with a 10.3-inch.
And you’ll get details like SiriusXM satellite radio live traffic updates with dashboard navigation and wireless smartphone loading pad. Most models come with six-speaker stereo, but a Harman/Kardon setup is standard on top-tier Turbo models.
Kia Soul models
For 2023 Kia has stripped down the Soul hatchback line up into five trim levels: LX S EX GT-Line and GT-Line Tech. All models feature a 2.0 litter inline-four producing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.
The engine drives the front wheels (all-wheel drive in Soul) via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
