The 2022 Kia Rio maintains the same advantages as the previous model year: low price, small size and a long warranty. Fuel economy is also impressive, as you might expect from such a small car. The EPA estimates the Rio will return 36 mpg combined.

The Kia Rio represents the best of cheap and easy transportation. Fuel-efficient and affordable but with surprising driving sophistication and price, this subcompact offers great value for money. It’s available as a sedan or hatchback, but doesn’t have a body Style has a lot of room in the back seat or cargo area. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment some driver assistance features are optional, if you’re looking at the Rio, there are some downsides to consider.

Even among sub-compact sedans, the Rio’s cargo space is low. A telescoping steering wheel isn’t available, and the standard seating position is a bit high, so, and some drivers are hard to get comfortable with. Wednesday The base trim level is also skipped given its low equipment level.

2022 Kia Rio Engine and Performance

The Rio is powered by a 1.6 litter inline-four making 120 horsepower, and the only transmission option is a continuously variable automatic.

It’s not the fastest car on the block, but the 2021 hatchback we tested hit 60 mph in 8.6 seconds – on par with many subcompact’s divider. Even more impressive, the Rio absorbs bumps in such a small car well, thanks to its solid construction and well-tuned suspension.

It also has good control of body roll in corners. The numb steering isn’t as communicative as we’d like, but it’s well-weighted and precise.

2022 Kia Rio Interior

Simplicity is the name of the game in Rio, and it’s no small problem. In fact, it offers a clean, easy-to-use dashboard with climate and audio controls. Lots of hard plastics but good texture and overall interior look mature and refined, Minimal.

There’s more than enough room in the Kia’s front seats, but rear-seat passengers won’t be as happy due to limited legroom. The Rio hatchback offers more space in the boot than the sedan, but neither of the Kia is a good choice if you plan to haul a lot of cargo.

We used to disappointed to find that the folding seats don’t create a flat cargo floor in the hatch. Its centre console and door pockets are competitively sized.

2022 Kia Rio Comfort

2022 Kia Rio Comfort

The Rio’s entry price may be low, but that doesn’t mean you’re getting something that isn’t sophisticated enough to handle the ruts and bumps of everyday driving. Soft suspension tunes and tall tire sidewalls mean the Rio rides surprisingly well. It is not perfect, but the ride is better than you might expect.

Unfortunately, we cannot stop there. A soft ride is a plus, but wind noise is almost always audible in the cabin and even with the suspension set up for comfort you’ll get hit through the seat on bigger bumps.

The seat itself is a traditional shape, but it neither provides Above average support nor comfort. Also, the absence of any armrest padding feels inconsiderate.

Despite the Rio’s small stature, its hatchback version offers a surprising amount of cargo space. With the rear seats up, the hatch area gives you 17.4 cubic feet of usable space.

That’s a bit bigger than what you’d get from a typical midsized sedan Let’s say you load all the way to the roof’s luggage. Fold the second row down, and you’ll have 32.8 cubic feet to use. The low floor makes loading and unloading easy.

2022 Kia Rio Technology

The Rio’s infotainment system is easy to navigate and easy to navigate, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. We did find ourselves wishing for a better stereo, but it’s hard to go wrong with the Rio’s system.

If only Kia could include more safety features in the Rio. We missed blind-spot monitoring and the Rio’s lane-keep assist is nowhere near as useful as other KIAS including the K5 and Seltos. Small cars may be built for price, but they aren’t, meaning you should be forced to miss out on important security tech.

We think the few hundred bucks separating the base Rio LX from the S model is worth it. The latter adds a centre armrest cruise control rear USB socket split-folding rear seat adjustable headrests and keyless entry.

The S also has ideal options such as a forward crash warning via automatic emergency braking SiriusXM satellite radio LED headlights etc. Since the hatchback adds more cargo space and slightly better passenger capacity, we recommend it over the sedan.

2022 Kia Rio Value

Our test car had a sticker price of about $20,000 making it one of the cheapest new cars you can buy. Given the fairly low price, the Rio is actually well-built. The cabin has a lot of hard plastic panels, but after years of abuse they’re likely to hold up well.

Unfortunately to Rio, The Kia Forte doesn’t cost much it offers more backseat space and a better ride, and it looks and feels more modern. That said, there’s no question that the Rio is worth the money.

Kia’s premium warranty offers five years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper and 10-year/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. Roadside assistance is also available during the five-year warranty.
