2022 Dodge Charger Review
The 2022 Dodge Charger is the only V-8-powered sedan that starts under $40,000. While the Chrysler 300 also offered a V-8 with a rear-wheel-drive layout, it was more upscale and more expensive.
The Charger is less refined has questionable interior quality and has an overly firm ride, It gets worse on the optional 20-inch wheels.
Like the Dodge Challenger coupe, it has a standard V-6 and available all-wheel drive. The most exciting Chargers however have a raucous Semi V-8 under the hood either a 370-hp 5.7 litter or a 485-hp 6.4 litter, The latter is reserved for Scat Pack The model isn’t quite as aggressive as the separately reviewed 700-plus-horsepower Charger SRT Hell cat.
But it’s the sportiest non-SRT model and offers a unique wide body look. While not everyone will love the 2022 Charger, anyone who wants a retro sedan with a myriad of nostalgic features will.
2022 Dodge Charger Performance
It’s a big, heavy car that drives in a hurry, at least with a V8 installed. Our Scat Pack test car did 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Braking performance is also excellent. In town, pedal response feels a little soft at first, but the brief stopping distance inspires confidence. On our test track, it took just 102 feet from a simulated panic stop at 60 mph.
Through high-speed corners, the Charger remains surprisingly flat. Unfortunately, it’s not a very engaging experience because you don’t feel connected to the car. It’s worth noting that mid-corner bumps reduce stability and cause a lot of movement in the rear of the car.
An overly sensitive accelerator pedal is Also a problem. Bend your big toe and the charger will come off the wire. The only remedy is to be super nice.
2022 Dodge Charger Technology
Dodge’s U connect system is one of the best. It responds to input and catalogues music collections with lightning speed. An optional 19-speaker stereo raises the price considerably (we’ll skip that option) but voice control and navigation are excellent.
A range of driver safety aids such as adaptive cruise control forward collision mitigation and lane keep assist are part of the optional tech group. All is well. The following distance of adaptive cruise control is relatively conservative.
2022 Dodge Charger Fuel Economy and MPG
The Charger is a big, heavy car with a good appetite for fuel. Although its EPA estimates for the city are below average, its highway ratings are quite competitive. While we haven’t tested the 5.7 litter V-8 on the 75-mph actual fuel economy route.
It’s part of our extensive testing regimen, We’ve tested the all-wheel-drive V-6 and the larger 485-horsepower V-8. Surprisingly both engines are within 1 mpg six at 26 mpg on the highway and eight at 25 mpg.
2022 Dodge Charger Interior
The Charger’s interior is functional but, as opposed to luxurious, it has more rubber than an adult movie set. Aside from excellent rear-seat legroom, it has slightly below-average passenger space. The simple design of the cabin is a classic muscle car, but the options are Rich. Although its boot volume is similar to that of most competitors,
The Charger is able to fit one more carry-on suitcase than its competitors. It has 18 in total, three more rear seats than the Maxima and the fastback Kia Stinger. Its centre console has plenty of places to go Slots next to small items, and shifters are perfect for storing your smartphone.
2022 Dodge Charger Comfort
The Charger’s front seats provide ample support and lumbar support. They’ll keep you comfortable on long journeys and keep you in place when the road gets twisty. The rear seats are also well contoured with similarly supportive padding.
On the downside, we could feel every bump in the city and on the highway from our Scat Pack test car. The ride on the base charger will be a little softer. There’s also a fair amount of road and tire noise on the highway. Everything is suppressed by a lot of soundproofing, but the charger, Not a quiet road cruiser.
2022 Dodge Charger Storage
The boot is decently sized, but the lift height is high and space narrows noticeably rearward. Non-performance-oriented competitors in the midsized segment fared much better. Door and centre console pockets are relatively small with small cans cup holder. Rear-seat storage is also limited.
The car seat anchors are hard to see in all three seating positions. The rear seats are wide enough to accommodate larger child safety seats and there’s usually enough room to fit them behind the front seats, but the Charger’s low roof makes loading the seats and caring for children difficult.
2022 Dodge Charger Prices
We think the Charger R/T with its 370-horsepower 5.7 litter V-8 is the perfect mix of power and functionality. Those who want all-wheel drive are limited to the V-6 version. The larger 485-horsepower V-8 that comes with the Scat Pack makes acceleration better again but costs about $5000 more than the R/T.
With a standard 8.4-inch Connect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, our picks include a beating dual-mode exhaust a leather-wrapped performance steering wheel and 20-inch rims.
We will also add the Driver Convenience Group (Blind Spot Monitor Rear Cross Traffic Alert Heated Exterior side mirrors and upgraded headlights) and Performance Handling Group (20-inch wheels with all-season performance tires Brymbo brakes and sport-tuned suspension).
2022 Dodge Charger Value
Much of Dodge’s development budget goes under the hood of this car. Build quality is good, but not great. Our test car didn’t rattle or squeak. But a lot of plastic interior surfaces feel a little cheap at the price point.
In terms of owning experience, expect to spend a lot of money on gas if you own a V8 power charger. Warranty and roadside assistance coverage is average.
