Midsized three-row SUVs are popular with growing families, but overall they’re not all that exciting or inspiring. For rare shoppers looking to spice things up, the 2022 Dodge Durango could be an interesting option.
Think of it as a wonderful mash-up of A muscle car and a sensible SUV. The stunning Hell cat variant has been discontinued for 2022, but don’t worry, the 475-horsepower SRT model is still available.
A by product of that power is excellent towing capacity, but otherwise the Durango doesn’t perform like a top-of-the-line SUV in its class. These include the Kia Telluride the Honda Pilot and the Hyundai Palisades which earned higher scores for versatility and efficiency. We explain in our expert’s rated below, Durango’s highlights and possible areas for improvement.

For 2022 the base Durango SXT gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert power-adjustable driver-seat rear parking sensors roof rails and a previously optional third-row seat as standard.
GT models add remote start heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and Electric tailgate. The GT Plus now comes with memory settings for the driver’s rain-sensing windshield wipers scuff plates for leather and suede upholstery in the rear luggage area and heated rear seats.
With top-spec R/T Plus trim added nappa leather and a contrast-stitched sunroof, Advanced automatic emergency braking system and Harman/Kardon stereo system and more. GT and R/T models with the optional Black top package now receive a fume hood from the Durango SRT 392.
2022 Dodge Durango Engine and Performance
The Durango’s optional 360-horsepower V-8 significantly improves towing capacity (up to 8,700 pounds) while the 295-horsepower V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic are a more efficient pairing. Granted, sporty, the Durango doesn’t surpass its four-cylinder rivals in fuel economy,
But For some buyers the trade-off for the more entertaining V-8 and its burly towing capacity may be worth it. We tested V-6 and V-8 engines with a standard eight-speed automatic and optional all-wheel drive. Durango with V-6 does zero to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds; V-8 does it in 6.2 seconds.
The Dodge’s suspension walks well between sportiness and comfort, but steering feel and braking performance remind you that you’re driving an SUV. While the Durango’s rear-wheel-drive platform isn’t overtly sporty, it’s a great addition to the Durango and Its muscle car persona shines in everyday use. It still manages to provide a comfortable ride, making it a family-friendly SUV that’s fun and easy to live in.
2022 Dodge Durango Comfort
Durango’s seats are spacious and comfortable in all positions. The first and second rows offer plenty of legrooms, while the third row can easily accommodate older kids. Climate control works well with adequate airflow across all three rows.
On the other hand, the Durango SRT rides a little underwhelming. While bearable, but it won’t put you to sleep on a road trip. Road noise is everywhere, as is the engine, but that’s probably a welcome thing. The finish is intoxicating.
2022 Dodge Durango Technology
The U connect 4C interface on the 8.4-inch screen is a bit dated but user-friendly and syncs well with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. If you can get the new 10.1-inch screen with Chrysler/Dodge’s latest infotainment software and features. There is Plenty of USB and 12-volt charging options for passengers in all locations.
Driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise and lane keep assist are useful, but they are part of the optional technology package. The upgraded Harman Kardon sound system sounds great and is worth getting
2022 Dodge Durango Interior
Every manufacturer uses a combination of materials ranging from cheap to high quality, but some designs like Durango’s are better than others. Designers prioritized ergonomic material quality and overall comfort, but other competitors offer more second- and third-row passengers space.
A set of red and white gauges on a black background faces the driver. The steering wheel is trimmed with thick leather-wrapped rims and a nice metallic look. On our R/T test vehicle, the paddle shifters mounted behind the wheel operated with a satisfying click.
We can accommodate 30 Carry-on luggage in the Durango cabin with all seats folded flat, but we could only fit four behind the third row with all seats in place. That’s two more than Acadia manages in two measurements.
2022 Dodge Durango Storage
Even with performance as a top priority, the Durango SRT manages to be as practical and nimble as an SUV. There’s 84.5 cubic feet of space, with all seats folded just above the middle of the class.
Small item storage is exactly what you want in a three-row SUV, Sufficient cubicles and cup holders are provided for all passengers. But this Durango’s party trick might be its excellent 8,700 pounds of towing when properly equipped.
2022 Dodge Durango Value
What do you want in your SUV? That’s what you have to ask yourself to define the value for. If you want luxury and comfort, look elsewhere because that’s not what this SUV is about. The interior looks and feels a bit low.
However, you will definitely get your money’s worth in performance. Dodge Consistent with the rest of the class in terms of warranty and roadside assistance.
The Durango SRT is a burly, powerful SUV where looks and sound matter. It confronts you and yells at you like an instructor. It doesn’t handle everything very well, but when it’s fully loaded, it doesn’t feel like it’s missing a step. Likewise, it’s really more fun day by day Better than an SUV.
If you want to create a scene on arrival and departure, this is the SUV for you. The looks and exhaust notes can be a headache. While it may be more of an attitude than a feeling, we can definitely see the appeal.
2022 Dodge Durango Price
The mid-range GT model is the best value in its class, and we’d stick with the standard V-6 instead of the thirstier V-8 engine. After all, if you’re looking for a high-performance SUV,
The Durango SRT or the limited-edition Durango SRT Hell cat (both reviewed separately) are more likely to please. We’re interested in upgrading from the standard 8.4-inch infotainment system to the new 10.1-inch unit, though, and the $995 GT model also adds in-dash navigation and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
