2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, Overview
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe has as much versatility as a large SUV with minivan-like passenger accommodations and pickup-matching towing capacity, earning it an Editors’ Choice award.
Chevrolet’s second-largest three-row Ute — the Suburban reviewed separately is First, there are three engine options: a standard 355-horsepower V-8 a beefier 420-horsepower V-8 and a diesel six-cylinder with 460 pound-feet of torque. The Tahoe’s diverse trim levels include the rugged Z71 for rough terrain and the more glamorous High Country.
So terrible, The latter costs as much as premium alternatives like the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator, but Its nowhere near as luxurious. The Tahoe’s polarizing cup might push some shoppers toward the GMC Yukon, but sensors, others will respect its popular tech features and impressively quiet cabin.
What’s New for 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe?
For 2022 Chevrolet has made some tweaks to the Tahoe lineup. The 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 is now available on the RST Z71 and Premier trim levels. The off-road-oriented Z71 also adds an electronic limited-slip differential.
Every Tahoe except the base LS now features a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The infotainment system on LT and above is also enhanced with Google’s voice assistant Maps and App Store.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
We think the mid-level RST and Z71 models are the best value, with the former being more flashy and the latter geared towards the adventurous. We prefer the Z71’s standard four-wheel-drive rugged looks and exclusive off-road gear.
Furthermore, we will also upgrade from the standard 5.3 liter V-8 to the newly introduced 6.2-liter V-8 bringing an extra 65 horsepower and 77 pound-feet of torque. Our Z71 will also come with the Z71 Signature Package, which includes a range of desirable features.
Highlights include blind-spot monitoring a heated steering wheel and Second-row seats with memory settings panoramic sunroof power-folding third-row and upgraded towing equipment.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Tahoe has been powered by the V-8 throughout its life and continues to be used in the latest generation. However, its standard 355-hp 5.3-liter and available 420-hp 6.2-liter block are joined by a diesel 3.0-liter flat-six. While it has the smallest horsepower of the three, its 460 lb-ft Torque matches the larger V-8.
Every Tahoe comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. We tested the off-road-oriented Z71 model with a standard V-8 which also features a 20-inch two-speed transfer case that offers conventional four-wheel drive The wheels are wrapped with all-terrain tires and under body protection.
Our example has plenty of acceleration, a firm brake pedal and an impressively quiet cabin at high speeds. The Z71 kit also brings air springs (allowing the Tahoe’s ride height to be lowered automatically and manually or bumps) and adaptive dampers, which are standard on the upper-tier Premier and High Country. Both the latter and RST models feature dazzling 22-inch rims for added curb appeal.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The most fuel-efficient Tahoe comes with an available diesel engine rated at 21 MPG city and 28 highways. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 is estimated to be slightly less in the city than the optional 6.2-liter V-8, but MPG bump both are rated at 20 MPG on the highway.
We Tested the Diesel-Powered Tahoe in Our 75 mph highway route was part of our extensive testing regimen and observed 27 MPG. More About Tahoe Fuel Economy
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
This latest-generation Tahoe has the largest interior space yet, and compared to the outgoing model, it feels like acres of space. Its previously narrow third row adds about 10 inches of legroom, and the second-row seats now slide forward and backward for much-needed flexibility. Adults can sit now Comfortably at a distance.
The Tahoe’s interior package also offers a lower, flatter load floor thanks to its independent rear suspension; the cargo area for the second and third rows folds the balloon to 123 cubic feet. We managed to fit six carry-on suitcases behind the third row.
While we love that Chevy replaced the old column shifter with a button-and-slider set up, the power-retractable center console cover seems gimmicky, especially since the control switches are located on the roof. Thankfully, the Tahoe’s other interior ergonomics are less shocking.
