The brand-new Kia EV6 is an electric SUV that has been entirely redesigned. It’s based on a new dedicated electric vehicle platform and has a one-of-a-kind design that is both sporty and chic.
The EV6 is powered by two electric motors that generate a combined total of over 600 horsepower. It can travel over 500 kilometers on a single charge and can be charged to 80% in 18 minutes or less.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is the company’s first purpose-built electric vehicle a compelling crossover built on the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that will underpin a range of new Kia EVs. The EV6 uses an 800-volt architecture with an expected range of up to 310 miles and fast charging is an example of the expanding options and capabilities of the latest electric vehicles.
It’s also available with two different battery rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with between 167 and 576 horsepower. The latter is for the top-of-the-line EV6 GT which is claimed to go from zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 miles Second. The 2022 EV6’s confident body and attractive cabin make it more interesting than its unimaginative name might suggest.
What’s New for 2022?
Kia said it plans to build 11 new electric vehicles by 2026 the first of which is the new 2022 EV6. Now that we’ve seen its sleek exterior and handsome interior design and learned more about its specs, we’ll just have to wait until the first models start arriving at dealerships early next year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
We recommend the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Wind trim level not only because it’s the most affordable way to get all-weather traction, but also because the dual motors produce a combined 320 horsepower compared to 225 horsepower from the single motor.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
EV6 can be equipped with a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle or electric motors mounted on two axles and can be configured with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. While the all-wheel-drive model has a larger battery pack with a combined 320 or 576 horsepower the base rear-drive model has a smaller battery pack battery and only 167 horses.
Opting for a larger battery boosts the rear-drive EV6’s total system output to 225 horses. We drove the GT-Line AWD in Europe and enjoyed its satisfying acceleration agility and adjustable regenerative braking settings. On our test track the 320-horsepower GT-Line The model managed a brisk 4.5-second zero-to-60-mph time.

Those looking for maximum straight-line performance will love the 576-horsepower GT which has an estimated zero-to-60-mph time of less than 3.5 seconds.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The Kia EV6 is available in two battery sizes: 58.0-kWh and 77.4-kWh packs. Obviously the larger of these will provide longer mileage. The smaller standard battery has an EPA-rated range of 232 miles;
the larger long-range battery is EPA-certified for up to 310 miles of range. With operating voltage The 800-volt Kia says its battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes when plugged into a 350-kilowatt fast charger.
The same setup is said to add 70 miles in less than 5 minutes. The 11 kW onboard charger is expected to recharge the battery from 10% to 100% in 7 hours. Connect to a Class 2 outlet.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
Each single-motor EV6 has a combined EPA rating of up to 117 MPGe; dual-motor variants are rated at 105 MPGe.
Once we can test both settings on a 75-mph highway route as part of our extensive testing regimen we can evaluate their real-world efficiency. More about EV6 Fuel economy visit the EPA website.
Interior, Passenger Space, and Cargo
The interior design and layout of the EV6 is not as bold as the exterior but the configuration and features look more attractive and futuristic than any other current Kia model.
Although the center console does not slide back and forth nor does it have footrests like on the front seats The upcoming Ioniq 5 EV6 combines high-tech content such as a digitized dashboard with practical elements such as a floating center console with rich storage solutions and a large bin below it.
Other prominent touches are the two-tone two-spoke steering wheel the prominent start button The gold trim on the center console and throughout the cockpit is tasteful. The EV6 has a flat floor and a wheelbase as long as the three-row midsize Kia Telluride so passenger space is generous.

Infotainment and Connectivity
The infotainment system operates via a 12.0-inch touchscreen which is an extension of the EV6’s 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster. However the design and performance of the menu structure and navigation are not impressive.
In addition to being able to receive over-the-air updates and respond to a myriad of Voice Command The system includes popular features such as Apple CarPlay Android Auto wireless smartphone charging and Wi-Fi hotspot.
Additionally the stereo can be upgraded to an available Meridian unit with 14 speakers.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Kia equips the EV6 with a variety of standard driver-assist technologies including automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams. Several other optional assists can be added for a more secure experience.
