Volvo XC90 : The Future of Driving

The all-new Volvo XC90 is the Swedish automaker’s latest SUV, and it’s a big step forward for the company. The Volvo XC90 SUV is available in three different versions: the Momentum, the Inscription and the R-Design.

Of course there will be some rival models on this list. You’ll want to check out the Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60. Both are family-friendly SUVs — just like the XC90 — with some new features and style added in a complete redesign for 2022. Audi Q7 and Lincoln Aviator are great choose also. But overall the XC90 holds its own and should easily satisfy shoppers looking for a spacious and elegant luxury SUV.

The 2022 Volvo XC90 is a three-row midsize luxury SUV. It comes with one of three available powertrains that Volvo calls the T5 T6 or Recharge. Those powertrains can then be matched to one of three trim levels that affect the number of features the XC90 is equipped with. The trim level is the momentum (called Inscription expression of the Recharge powertrain) R design and inscription.

All XC90s come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The T5 comes standard with front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive available. All other XC90s come standard with all-wheel drive.

Seven-passenger seating is standard although the T6 and Recharge powertrains in Momentum/Inscription Expression or Inscription trims can have a six-seat configuration and second-row captain’s seats.

Forward Collision Mitigation (warning you of an impending collision and applying the brakes in some cases)

Blind spot monitor (will alert you if a vehicle in the next lane is in your blind spot)

Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Volvo and the car in front)

Lane Keeping System (makes slight steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in the lane)

Rear traffic alert (warns if a vehicle behind you is about to cross your vehicle’s path when reversing)

Rear automatic braking (brakes if sensors detect an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
