The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is a fuel-efficient sedan that offers plenty of standard features. It has a comfortable ride and handles well making it a good choice for a daily driver. The Corolla Hybrid gets excellent gas mileage and comes with a long list of standard safety features.
When it comes to getting the best gas mileage there are few better options than the Toyota Prius.
I had the pleasure of testing the 2022 Toyota Prius and even in all-wheel-drive form I was able to average 44 MPG on my heavy feet.
I also tested the 2023 Toyota Corolla Has the same drivetrain, but I feel like it actually makes more sense in your day-to-day life. That’s why.
Corolla Hybrid looks better than Prius
2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid front
Appearance may be subjective but there’s no denying that the Toyota Prius looks funky. In fact it always benefits from its windproof aerodynamics. But if that tree-hugging look isn’t your style then you’ll love how the Toyota Corolla Hybrid looks a lot like a Corolla.
I think The Corolla’s aggressive front end and sharp headlights really spice up the car’s appearance.
The interior of the Prius also looks a bit like Star Trek which is cool but not as intuitive. The speedometer is in the middle of the dashboard not in front of the driver.
If you opt for a later version of the Prius Prime you get a giant touchscreen that can be removed Volume and tuning knobs make it even more cumbersome.
On the other hand the Corolla Hybrid’s interior is easy to use and navigate with all its important features at your fingertips.
The Corolla Hybrid has plenty of space
Speaking of each car’s interior there’s no denying that the Prius’s interior is a bit more flexible than the Corolla’s hatchback design. Prius has a cargo capacity of 27.4 cubic feet (seats up) and a whopping 50.7 cubic feet (with seats) Fold down. Unfortunately the Corolla Hybrid only has 13.1 cubic feet of cargo volume but if you just need a small trunk for groceries or a few carry-on bags then it’s fine.
Although I must point out that the Corolla Hybrid has surprisingly more rear-seat legroom compared to the Prius’s 33.4 cubic feet given its size at 34.8 cubic feet. OK so it doesn’t sound like a lot but when it comes to legroom every inch counts.

Corolla is more fun to drive
While the Corolla Hybrid and Prius share the same drivetrain I found the Corolla to be more fun to drive. It’s a few hundred pounds lighter than the Prius so that might be a factor. It also has the same numb steering feel.
But overall I found the Corolla to feel a bit much Responsive in tighter corners given its reduced body roll and smaller size than its snazzy stable.
You’ll spend less on Corolla Hybrid
Finally if you want to keep your monthly payments low the Corolla Hybrid is what you can get. At $23,650 the Corolla Hybrid is cheaper than the base Prius at $24,525. The two cars are similarly equipped so you’ll find better value in the Corolla.
While the Toyota Prius has meant a lot to the millions of people who have bought a car since its debut 20 years ago the updated Corolla Hybrid is just as meaningful if not more to your everyday life.
