Chevrolet Colorado Performance 8.0/10

How does Colorado drive? Our 4WD ZR1 test truck came with the available 3.6-liter V6 engine. On our test track 0-60 mph took 7.3 seconds which is a respectable time for a midsize truck. On slopes the derailleur doesn’t really have a problem finding gears but it’s occasionally reluctant Downshift on smooth roads. In everyday driving the brakes are predictable and easy to control.

Body roll is tamed by firm suspension tuning so you can cruise the Colorado down curvy roads with confidence. Thinking about off-roading? The lower front air dam limits off-road clearance but you can remove it in about 30 minutes. Even with single-mode traction control the Z71 can handle it Wheel lift in rocky terrain thanks to a standard locking rear differential.

Chevrolet Colorado Comfort 7.5/10

How comfortable is Colorado? The Colorado offers a better ride quality than many competitors in its class and it smooths out big bumps and small cracks just as easily. Climate control and seat adjustability are basic but drivers accustomed to pickups should feel comfortable. front seat Sturdy and in good shape but larger drivers may find them a bit limiting. The rear seats are stiffer and the backrests are a little too straight. The heated seats and steering wheel work well and are easy to operate.

The Colorado’s cabin produces some wind duct and engine noise but nothing close to the level that would cause passengers to raise the sound. The high gearing of the eight-speed transmission does a lot to keep the engine quiet while cruising.

Chevy Colorado Interior 8.0/10

How is the interior? The Colorado is a tall car and steps are optional so getting in and out may be reachable for some. The front doors open wide but the rear door openings are narrow so getting in will be harder. The same problem has a lot of room ahead Seats but rear space is limited even in the crew compartment.

The driving position is high and road visibility with a good range of adjustment in the optional tilt and telescoping steering wheel. However the large pillars impair external visibility. When it comes to internal controls everything is within easy reach and most controls are Well marked and large size.

Chevy Colorado Technology 8.0/10

How is the technology? Chevrolet offers solid in-vehicle technology. The touchscreen interface is feature-rich easy to use responsive and graphically clear. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. The optional Bose system is a nice upgrade but not as loud We do. For the phone there are two USB ports on the front and a wireless charging pad and an available rear charging port and a 110-volt outlet. Chevrolet’s Wi-Fi hotspot setup is also one of the easier systems to use — it offers 4G LTE connectivity and can handle up to seven devices.

Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are optional and a bit sensitive but they work as advertised. Otherwise we’d like to see blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control included on the options list as many other competitors offer these features.

Towing and Storage 7.5/10

How about towing and storage? Offering high towing ratings (7000 pounds for the V6 7700 pounds for the optional diesel) and class-leading payload the Colorado is the only mid-size truck with a built-in trailer brake controller.

Disturbingly the bed is relatively narrow and the high sides make it difficult to load. The interior of the rear seats doesn’t fold flat and there are no clever compartments for larger items. But there are plenty of places to store small items including the phone tray next to the USB port door pocket It’s cleverly layered and large-sized cup holders. For child seats the outboard rear seats provide car seat points but the tether anchors are difficult to reach and rear seat space is limited.

Chevy Colorado Fuel Economy 7.5/10

How’s the fuel economy? The Chevrolet’s fuel economy is slightly above the segment average, especially the diesel. EPA-estimated combined fuel consumption for the 4WD V6 is 19 MPG (17 city/24 highway). We easily matched that number on our mixed-driving test route.

chevrolet colorado 2022

Value 7.5/10

Is Colorado worth the money? Value for money is a tough proposition here. The cabin is filled with hard plastics and surfaces that usually feel cheap, but the Colorado looks solid and feels modern enough to beat the Frontier and Ranger.

Then there’s the off-road problem Usability compared to the Tacoma and lack of practicality and livability compared to the Ridgeline – it seems to be somewhere in the middle.

Competitive pricing for this segment a basic three-year/36,000-mile warranty and an impressive two-year maintenance. Roadside assistance (with towing) is warranted for five years/60,000 miles.

Wildcard 7.0/10

Most Coloradoans on the road are going to be utilitarian players providing owners with a very specific set of skills and doing so without really wowing anyone.

Sure the crazy ZR2 looks fun and it bounces around the roughest trails without a problem but most shoppers will choose less Able to get cheaper trim levels.

If you want a road truck that looks like a truck but isn’t as big as a full-size truck Colorado is your niche player.

Which Colorado does Edmunds recommend?

The mid-level LT is our all-around truck of choice. It offers convenience features not found on the work truck base trim such as cruise control and a remote locking tailgate as well as additional options like automatic climate control and an 8-inch touchscreen.

As a bonus you can add some off-road Spice up your LT with the new Trail Boss pack. We also recommend the upgraded V6 engine.

The torquey diesel pulls well which sounds like a lot but it’s hard to justify the extra expense.
