From a dead stop it’s a little better—0-60 mph took 8.7 seconds on our test track which is typical for competitors with the base engine. this The available turbocharged engine accelerates the CX-5 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.
Handling is where the CX-5 excels. Because it’s sharp and easy to communicate you can corner faster than the competition without screeching tires or feeling out of control. The car isn’t affected by a quick left-to-right transition. This is the best-handling small crossover. no doubt about it.
Mazda cx-5 Comfort 8.0/10
How comfortable is the CX-5? The front seats are in good shape and generally comfortable. The bottom of the rear seats is flat which can make long drives uncomfortable for rear passengers. But the rear seatbacks can recline for added comfort.
The CX-5’s ride quality is firm but not uncomfortable. Mid-corner bumps barely affect the CX-5 and it never feels floaty. Road defects are dealt with immediately. Cabin noise is really only noticeable on the highway. Even then you don’t have to raise your voice to talk to it passenger.

Mazda cx-5 Interior 8.0/10
How is the interior? The cab is driver-oriented and all controls are within easy reach. The CX-5 is roomy up front with plenty of headroom for tall guys all around. Rear passengers may feel cramped by the sculpted outboard seats which also make it difficult for adults to sit middle. Rear legroom is a little tight.
The high driving position high windows and narrow pillars make this car easy to see. The view over the shoulder is an exception. The rear window is a bit smaller than the competition’s but offers decent visibility to limit blind spots. The backup camera’s resolution is sharp.
Mazda cx-5 Technology 8.0/10
How is the technology? The infotainment system is easy to use overall and the 10.25-inch display is bright and attractive. The available integrated navigation system is also easy to figure out. CX-5s with a head-up display can project steering commands directly onto the windshield. Mazda The voice control system is based on natural speech recognition. It’s good at calling people into destinations and tuning into terrestrial radio stations.
Availability of the CX-5’s advanced driver assistance systems is mixed. The lane departure warning system emits a distinctive low-pitched hum that really grabs your attention. But blind-spot monitors are too sensitive triggering even when passing vehicles a few cars behind.
How is the storage? The CX-5 has a slightly smaller cargo area than the competition but we were able to fit two large suitcases without obstructing rear visibility. The loading entry is also a bit smaller than on the Honda CR-V due to the higher cargo floor height and The liftgate has a shorter maximum opening height. There is ample space for small items in the cabin.
Have small children? Four slots on the outboard seats allow access to the car seat anchors. It was easy to push through the slot but the anchors inserted a little. Even with the trunk lid in place the tethers on the seatbacks are easy to reach. Press down on plastic tabs to hide items Access Tether.
Mazda cx-5 Fuel Economy 6.5/10
How’s the fuel economy? The all-wheel-drive CX-5 with the base engine has an estimated fuel economy of 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Our test AWD CX-5 on our 115-mile mixed-driving evaluation route managed to get 28.8 mpg so you might expect an EPA match number. Some top rival crossover SUVs will still give you better fuel economy.
Is the CX-5 worth the money? There isn’t a single cheap trim piece in the CX-5. Everything from the available leather upholstery to the buttons and controls feels expensive. The only disappointment is the stretchable side bolsters that alternately rub against the center console. everything Other exceptions. A fully loaded CX-5 may be a bit cheaper than top-tier competitors. Warranty coverage for this course is average and the course does not usually include free maintenance.
From the moment you see the expressive shark-like nose the CX-5 is impressive. The good vibe continues when you take a seat in the car and see the beautifully constructed cabin that puts every other vehicle in this class to shame. Few crossovers feel adventurous but you can pass CX-5。
Which CX-5 does Edmunds recommend?
The CX-5 is at its best when equipped with a turbocharged engine. Unfortunately you can only get it in expensive Turbo or Turbo Signature trims. If you need value options consider the preferred trim. It comes with everything a small SUV needs and even some premium Leather upholstery and other upgrades.
