That’s what the 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is set to solve. The top-line stats are huge: 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque from the twin-turbo V6 hybrid. The Sequoia TRD Pro is one of five trim levels that will be released as part of the series’ 2023 model year. It’s at the high end of the trim range
I have yet to meet an off-road fan who disrespects the Toyota Land Cruiser. Some models old and new somewhere along the line have made their way into the minds of anyone who has ever deliberately put a transfer case in a 4LO.
But the legendary SUV is now gone Although from the US we’ve felt left out since the 300-series Land Cruiser was launched internationally last summer. That’s what the 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is set to solve.
2023 Toyota Sequoia
The top-line stats are huge: 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque from the twin-turbo V6 hybrid. This beefy powertrain is standard on practically all 2023 Sequoias from the relatively basic SR5 to the flagship Capstone luxury model.
It has more goodies in TRD Pro but like Locking rear differential — none of the previous-generation Sequoias and neither did the Tundra. Meanwhile the Land Cruiser doesn’t have a hybrid option but uses less: 409 hp and 480 lb-ft.
That’s good for Sequoia. Moving on you’ll find a lot in common; both models are body-on-frame and use Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture. They have a fully boxed steel frame which is almost essential for a four-wheeled SUV though The overall size of Sequoia has always been larger.
Bigger size isn’t really a plus for off-road vehicles but this is America; we’re always asking for more legroom. Toyota hasn’t announced the size of the Sequoia although a spokesperson did tell me it’s smaller than tundra.
The suspension that underpins the Sequoia TRD Pro is also worth noting. The multi-link rear coil spring setup complements Fox internal bypass shocks not found on global market Land Cruisers.
That’s not to say the 300 Series is slouching on tricky roads – we’re all Know that’s not the case — though this new Sequoia does build itself a solid truck for enthusiasts.
Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro
The Sequoia also received the same updated versions of Crawl Control and Downhill Assist Control we’ve already tested in the Tundra TRD Pro which are leaps from the systems they replace. Truck input is smooth and they can help more efficiently Drivers focus on choosing their line not managing throttle and brake inputs.
Multi-Terrain Select also helps the Sequoia TRD Pro maintain traction and limit wheel spin though it’s nice to see features like the Land Cruiser’s electrodynamic dynamic suspension system. This is essentially a hydraulic network that disables the anti-roll bars when maximum suspension articulation is required. That chunky red stabilizer bar had to be manually removed from the Sequoia TRD Pro.
Now Toyota hasn’t released towing figures for the TRD Pro though we know at least one version of the 2023 Sequoia can manage 9,000 pounds. Don’t expect off-road models to list the maximums that high as off-road suspensions with more travel rarely bring huge tow number. Even so it could still come in decent numbers.
For reference the high-performance four-wheel Tundra has less than 1000 pounds less towing than the most powerful spec. The Tow Tech Package is also standard on the Sequoia TRD Pro meaning everyone will There are trailer backup guides and straight path assistance which is reassuring.
And let’s not forget the massive waiting list for the Land Cruiser either.
Recent reports say some deliveries are four years old and the Sequoia should hit the market this summer.
Toyota Sequoia TRD
Mike Sweers Sequoia’s executive chief engineer called it the second brother of Toyota’s TNGA-F platform during the model’s unveiling on Tuesday night.
It sits between the Tundra which is more suitable for work and the Land Cruiser which is mainly used off-road Performance.
The Sequoia seems to fit in nicely in the middle with its emphasis on family transport as well as off-road driving especially in the TRD Pro trim.
And knowing how seriously Sweers and his team take the truck it’s bound to be a great performer in the real world too.
