We’re not sure when something like this would be handy off-road though – Possibly when traversing a hillside laterally. Hopefully the Hummer’s four-wheel steering also allows the rear wheels to be out of phase with the front wheels to reduce the turning radius. Claimed wheel torque will undoubtedly be an obstacle-ridden path especially a boon for GMC Claims that the Hummer EV can expand vertically by 18 inches.
Although the company hasn’t released off-road geometry figures the adaptive air suspension can lift the Hummer up to 6 inches. Still we think it will offer impressive ground clearance and close takeoff and breakout angles especially considering it can wade over 2 feet of standing water.
What’s more the electric Hummer should be just as powerful on the road as it is off. GM estimates that the three-motor launch vehicle will sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds a figure that would put any number of performance cars to shame and nearly matches Tesla’s claimed 2.9 seconds Cybertruck. When it’s time to unwind the Hummer EV can be equipped with Super Cruise GM’s autonomous driving assistance. The latest version of Super Cruise can even detect when a lane change is optimal to initiate maneuvers and use turn signals appropriately.

The first electric Hummer up for grabs is the $112,595 Edition 1 which will be the only model available when the pickup arrives in fall 2021. Every 1st Edition will come in the same white paint and feature a stunning modern Moon Horizon interior. Like most launch specials 2022 The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is fully loaded including Infinity Roof Watts to Freedom drive mode adaptive dampers Extreme Off-Road Package (underbody armored rock sliders and those 35-inch tires) and four-wheel steering with CrabWalk. GMC’s trim walk here is a complete headache. It’s a little odd that we’ll have to wait three and a half years for the base Hummer EV to arrive especially since we’ll see the top-spec Version 1 in about a year. In the meantime we think we’ll see The production-ready Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck hit the market and GM will face stiff competition if the claimed numbers for these models are to be believed.

Speaking of Battlestar Galactica-style pickups Tesla’s Cybertruck promises to be the most likely foe for the electric Hummer. While the Hummer EV is somewhat of a throwback to American off-road (and militaristic) nostalgia the Cybertruck is pure futurism. if it can hold on Claims that the Cybertruck’s performance pricing and availability will make it harder for GMC to sell.
